The Nikon 50mm f/1.8D(http://bit.ly/Nik50mm18D) has been the "nifty fifty" for Nikon users, simply because it does a surprisingly good job at a pleasantly good price. Now Nikon has come out with a new version, can it better an already good formula?

------------------------------------------------------------------LENSES INFO------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm giving you my recommendation on the Nikon 50mm 1.8G vs 50mm 1.8D vs 1.4G vs 1.4D lenses.
I have used all those lenses for more than six years on many of my Nikon DSLR cameras, I think I can easily recommend those lenses to those who are not yet determined what lens to buy.

Read this it's important.
The Nikon 50mm AF-S 1.8G and the Nikon 50mm AF-S 1.4G can autofocus with Nikon D3000 - D3500 and D5000 - D5600 and many other modern Nikon DSLR cameras.

The Nikon 50mm AF 1.8D and the 50mm AF 1.4D can NOT autofocus with Nikon D3000 - D3500 and D5000 - D5600 cameras

Nikon AF lenses can autofocus with all Nikon cameras that have a built-in autofocus motor.

My Recommendation.
Nikon 50mm AF-S 1.8G
The Nikon 50mm AF-S 1.8G is for multi-purpose photography and the best choice, in my opinion,
So many people have the Nikon D3000 - D3500 and D5000 - D5300 cameras and this lens can autofocus with those cameras.
This lens is very sharp.
And if you move into the Nikon Z system later, you will have full support with the FTZ mount adapter.

Nikon 50mm AF-S 1.4G
The Nikon 50mm AF-S 1.4G is for professional photographers.
This lens has nine aperture blades and a much longer focus throw.
The Nikon 50mm 1.4G lens is very sharp from f/2.2 and down.
I have always found this lens to nail autofocus faster and better than the other Nikon 50mm, just a little bit though.

Nikon 50mm AF 1.8D
The Nikon 50mm AF 1.8D is for multi-purpose photography.
The Nikon 50mm 1.8D lens is especially good for long exposure @ f/8 - f/11 This lens produces a beautiful starburst.
This lens is also good for still life photography because of Distortion of 0.1%.
This lens can flare when pointed to bright light.

Nikon 50mm AF 1.4D
The Nikon 50mm AF 1.4D would be my choice for shooting video in low light @ f/2 and down.
This lens is unusable wide open @ f/1.4 in my opinion.
